5 KEY CONSIDERATIONS FOR CHOOSING YOUR SUN LENSES

With summer is coming, we're all thinking about a new pair of sunglasses. Here are some considerations for choosing the right sun lenses for you.

1. TINT

Tinted lenses reduce the intense brightness of the sun to help you see more comfortably.

Tints are classified from 0 to 4 according to their shade. For a standard use, go for class 3. Class 4 is ideal in very sunny conditions, but you shouldn't wear them to drive!

2. UV PROTECTION

Be careful with the sunglasses sold on the street, because even if the tint is very dark, it doesn't mean they offer better UV protection! UV protection depends on the material the glasses are made from and the quality of their coating treatments, in particular their anti-reflective coating. With a 1.6 material for example the lens blocks 100 % of UV on the front face of the lens, but a 1.5 material only blocks 95 %.

For even better protection, you can add on an anti-reflective treatment, Transitions photochromic technology or make your lenses polarised with Xperio.

3. GLARE

Regular sun lenses reduce brightness but do not necessarily block all glare! Xperio® polarised lenses are ideal for driving and outdoor activities. These lenses block the sun's reflected light rays and eliminate glare.

4. AESTHETICS

A wide range of colours are available from classic colours such as brown, grey, black and green to fashionable colours such as aubergine, vermilion, yellow and violet to even softer colors for indoor use. Choose gradient colours when you're out on-the-town, but maybe not at the beach since the bottom of gradient lenses offer less protection than the top.

5. PRESCRIPTION SUN LENSES

It's nice to have prescription sunglasses for driving on a sunny day! Be on the look out for deals on a second pair!
